Draughtsman/Surveyor
Draughtsman/Surveyor – April 94 – April 2015– Irish Defence Forces – Dublin– Engineering Corps of the Defence Forces.
I initially trained and served in the cavalry Corps as a trooper crewing armoured vehicles at home and abroad. In 1996 I transferred to the Engineering Corps where I trained as a combat Engineer. From 1997 to 2003 I worked in the Drawing Office where my draughting skills were utilised. On promotion in 2003 I transferred to Casement Aerodrome where I ran the Drawing office. In addition to drawing and designing works, I prepared contracts, administered on-going contracts prepared condition reports and I had a role mentoring and training junior team members. I also developed an expertise in dealing with heritage structures.Key responsibilities
● Drawing-Responsible for producing CAD generated drawing and maintaining airfield services location records.
● Project design- formulating design solutions for a diverse range of projects from temporary kitchen facilities to earthworks.
● Preparing contract documents- Drawings, specifications and pricing documents.
● Carry out measured surveys, condition surveys and make recommendations on repair of heritage structures.
● Oversee the employment of trades for routine maintenance tasks.
● Mentoring junior staff.
● Occasionally instruct at school of Military Engineering. -
