Project Surveyor

The Alfasi Group is a leading construction and engineering group with a diverse range of services ranging from structural steel fabrication and erection, drafting services, equipment hire, project management, design and construct of facade and structure packages and turn key projects.

The Alfasi Group employs over 250 staff ranging from project managers, project engineers, design and drafting, quality assurance, O H & S supervisors, steel erection crews as well as boilermakers and welders.

Project Profile – During my time with Alfasi I worked on the Darling Harbor Live Project. Due to be completed in late 2016 this will become Australia’s largest convention and exhibition facilities, Sydney’s largest red carpet entertainment venue, and a hotel complex of up to 900 rooms.
The development involves construction of the new, integrated and world-class International Convention Centre, Exhibition Halls and Multifunction Entertainment Centres. The highly complex steel structure of approximately 18,000t will be one of Australia’s largest steel construction projects.

Our client was Lend Lease, the architect was HASSELL + Populous & the consultant structural engineers were Robert Bird Group.

Daily Duties included –
 Quotations, including RFQ’s & comparisons of local & international quotations.
 Providing input into head contractor & subcontractor commercial meetings.
 Variations including Notice of Potential Variation & Variation Claims.
 Working with international subcontractors & suppliers.
 Notices of Delay & Extensions of Time.
 Compiling weekly commercial reports.
 Monthly Progress claims.
 Cost to complete reports.

During my time with Systech I worked on a major Gas & Pipeline project. The Santos GLNG is an $18.5bn project with three major components. The GLNG upstream is the source of the LNG. I was assigned to Flour\’s Project Controls office located in Fairview, Central Queensland. The upstream package was estimated to cost in the region of $6bn.

» I began my employment with Norris Brothers Ltd. in January 2008. I was originally employed as a trainee and established myself as a important team member over my time. Norris Brothers are primarily a steel contractor; specializing in the fabrication & erection of commercial, industrial & agricultural steel structures. Cladding works and the like are also a major part of their scope of works.

» Throughout my time with the company I worked on many interesting and unique projects. We completed many challenging builds with a variety of respected contractors including BAM, SISK, JJ Rhatigan & Co. and Purcell Construction to name just a few. From schools such as Tramore CBS new build with a capacity of 1,000 students to pharmaceutical builds like Bausch & Lomb, MSD, Genzyme and many other exciting projects in the built environment.
